About Cicely Tyson
Acclaimed American actress Cicely Tyson is probably best known for her Emmy-winning TV role in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, the life story of a former slave. She was born in 1933 in New York, the daughter of Caribbean immigrants. She was nominated for an Oscar for the Depression drama Sounder, which made her a star. She only takes roles that present black women in a positive light. She was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame in 1977.
